Irregular lines stand for spontaneity, freedom and innovation, while straight shapes tend to symbolise control, structure, stability and security. Although this appears to be a contradiction in terms, the interplay between them creates an exciting dynamic. My brooch epitomises this tension: iron hoops and round shapes stand for stability and order, while irregularly arranged wooden branches represent chaos. The branches break through the stable hoops as a soft, natural material. This polarity between material and arrangement creates a connection between complementary forces. The art lies in finding the balance between order and freedom.
